Abney Baptist Church is all about the Word of God
Everything we do centers around the Word of God. We take seriously Jesus' command to win the lost and to make disciples. We are led by some of the most dedicated and capable staff members and department heads to be found anywhere. Read about them below:
Our Pastor:
Dr. Todd Morris has served as Pastor of Abney Baptist Church since October of the year 2000. During his tenure the church has grown both numerically and spiritually. Dr. Morris is a dynamic expositor of the Bible. In addition to pastoring our church, he is in demand as a revivalist and conference speaker. He also teaches on the college level in our own minsitry, the Abney Baptist Bible Institute, as well as through an affiliated school, South Atlantic Bible College. Dr. Morris received his education at Campbell University, International Seminary, and Luther Rice Seminary. He is married to the former Terry Annette Courtney and they have two sons: Zachary and Joshua.
Director of Youth Ministries:
Our Youth Ministries are under the direction of Christy Holley. For many years Christy was Director of Children's Minsitries, but took over Youth Ministries in the spring of 2006 following the resignation of our Youth Minister. Christy is product of Abney, having grown up under the ministry here. After graduation from Coker College she returned and now works full time as a teacher and coach at Lugoff Elgin Middle School in addition to her duties here. Christy holds both the Bachelors and Masters degree in Education. She is married to Scott Holley (the son of a Baptist minister) and they have two children: Cameron and Payton.
Older Children:
In July 2008 we were saddened to accept the resignation of Karen Baker from the position of Director of Older Children's Ministry. Terry Morris is filling the position on an interim basis until it can be filled on a permenant basis.
Younger Children:
Our younger children's (grades 1-3) programs are under the direction of Monica Polson. Monica holds a Masters degree in Speech Pathology and serves full time as a Speech Therapist at the Heath Springs Elementary School in addition to her work at the church. Her energy and excitement as well as her love for children are a valuable asset to Abney Baptist Church. Monica is married to Lance Polson and they have two daughters: Abby Laine and Laurin Rae.
Pre-School:
Our Pre-School programs are under the direction of Marla Coates. Marla nd her husband Tracy are valuable members of our church. Thye have two children: a daughter, Logan, and a son, Carson. Marla began her duties in this capacity in 2007.
Music Ministry:
Since January 1, 2006 our music ministry has been under the direction of Henry McManus. Henry has well over 20 years experience in the field of music ministry, and studied music at Winthrop University. Henry leads our adult choir and is assisted in other areas by the following: Pre-school - Monica Polson, Children - Tonya Vicent, Youth - Krystal Ware. As you can see we have a music program for all ages, and all do an outstanding job.
Youth Drama Team:
In 2005 we began a new ministry involving our youth and Drama. This team is under the direction of Cary Hewitt, Terry Phillips, and Beth Faulkenberry. The Drama Team is open to grades 7 - 12.
Senior Adult Ministry:
C.L. Boone serves as our Minister to Senior Adults. C.L. has been a member of Abney for over 30 years. Upon his retirement in 2006, he took over the direction of our Senior Adult Ministry. C.L. is also a Deacon in our church. He is married to the former Dianne Faulkenberry. They have two grown children: Eric, former Associate Pastor here at Abney, who now serves as a pastor in Hendersonville, NC, and Melinda Phillips, who is extremely active in the ministries of Abney. Thye also have two grandchildren Andrew and Seth Boone.
Women's Ministry:
Our Womens' Ministry is under the direction of Terry Morris, the wife of our pastor. Terry also serves as our Pianist. In her capacity as Women's Ministry Director she oversees the Bible Study aspects of that ministry as well as the planning of our bi-annual Womens' Conferences. She does an outstanding job with our Bible Study ministry, utilizing many tremedous study programs including Beth Moore and Elizabeth George. She is in the process of enlarging the scope of this minisitry to include Prayer Breakfasts and Women's Night Out Ministries. Terry is a graduate of Central Piedmont Community College with an Associate of Applied Sciences degree, a graduate of South Atlantic Bible College with a Bachelor of Religious Education degree, and has additional studied at Bob Jone University. In addition to her many positions at the church she works full-time as a nurse in an Urgent Care practice in Lugoff, SC.
Women's Mission Ministry:
The missions aspect of our women's program is under the direction of Donna Green. Donna was born and raised in Abney Church. She is married too John Green, one of our Deacons. They have one living child, a daughter, Renee Robinson. Renee is married ot Kyle Robinson and they have two sons: Rhett, and Cole.

Men's Ministry
Our men's ministry is under the direction of Larry Humphries. Larry was saved through the ministry of this church in 1994. Our Men's Ministry includes ministry with our boys ages 6 through 18 and men's Bible studies, prayer groups and mission projects. Larry is married to Rita Humphries and they have two children: Patrick and Erin.
